Geoquest Photography Competition – $2,000 Prize Pool

Infrastructure shapes our communities. Now it’s time to put it in the frame. We’ve launched the Geoquest Photography Competition, now open!
Celebrating the engineering excellence, scale and visual presence of infrastructure across Australia and New Zealand. Geoquest is inviting photographers to put infrastructure in the frame, offering a total prize pool of $2,000, the competition celebrates the creativity, scale and engineering excellence found in infrastructure projects.
Supported by the National Precast Concrete Association Australia (NPCAA), the competition will feature two categories:
- Best Precast Concrete Structure in Infrastructure – $1,000 prize
- Best Retaining Structure in Infrastructure – $1,000 prize
The competition is open to all Australian and New Zealand residents and entries do not need to feature a Geoquest project or solution. Photographers may submit existing photography or newly captured images, with a maximum of three entries per person (applications accepted from individuals only).
Entries will be judged primarily on photographic merit, with the judging panel looking for visual impact, composition, originality, use of light and materiality, and the relationship between infrastructure and the surrounding landscape. Technical project context will support, but not determine, judging outcomes.
Entries open 1st September 2026 and close on 17 January 2027, with winners to be announced at the NPCAA National Conference in March 2027.

Who can enter?
The Geoquest Photography Competition is open to all residents of Australia and New Zealand. You do not need to be a professional photographer to enter.
We welcome entries from photographers, engineers, contractors, consultants, students, drone operators and infrastructure enthusiasts.
What does it cost to enter?
Entry is completely free.
How many photographs can I submit?
You may submit a maximum of three photographs.
What are the competition categories?
There are two categories:

Do my photographs need to feature a Geoquest project?
No.
Photographs can feature any suitable infrastructure project located in Australia or New Zealand and do not need to include Geoquest products, systems or projects.
Can I submit existing photographs?
Yes.
You may enter photographs taken previously, provided you own the image and have the right to submit it.
Must the photograph be taken in Australia or New Zealand?
Yes.
All entries must depict infrastructure projects located within Australia or New Zealand.
What types of infrastructure are eligible?
Examples may include:
- Precast concrete structures
- Retaining walls
- Bridges
- Roads and highways
- Rail infrastructure
- Ports and marine works
- Mining infrastructure
- Industrial facilities
- Public infrastructure projects
Infrastructure should be a significant visual component of the image.
What are the judges looking for?
Entries will be judged primarily on photographic merit, including:
- Visual impact
- Composition
- Originality
- Use of light
- Materiality and texture
- Sense of scale
- Relationship between the structure and surrounding landscape
Technical project information may support an entry but will not determine the winner.
Do I need professional camera equipment?
No.
Entries may be captured using any camera, including DSLR, mirrorless, compact cameras, drones or smartphones.
Judging will focus on the quality and creativity of the photograph rather than the equipment used.
Are drone photographs permitted?
Yes.
Drone photography is welcome provided all images have been captured legally and in accordance with applicable aviation regulations.
Can photographs be edited?
Basic photographic editing is permitted, including:
- Exposure adjustments
- Colour correction
- Cropping
- Contrast adjustments
Images should remain a genuine representation of the scene photographed.
Can I enter photographs that have won other competitions?
Yes, provided you own the image rights and are permitted to submit the photograph.
What file format should I upload?
Please submit high-resolution JPEG files.
Specific file size requirements are detailed within the entry form.
Do I retain copyright of my photographs?
Yes.
Entrants retain copyright of their images.
By entering, you grant Geoquest permission to use submitted photographs for competition-related promotion, marketing and publicity purposes in accordance with the competition terms and conditions.
When do entries open and close?
Entries open on 1 September 2026 and close on 17 January 2027.
Late submissions cannot be accepted.
When will winners be announced?
Winners will be announced at the National Precast Concrete Association Australia (NPCAA) National Conference in March 2027.
How will winners be notified?
Winners will be contacted directly using the contact details provided in their entry.
Can I enter on behalf of a company?
No.
Entries must be submitted by individuals.
I’m not a professional photographer. Should I still enter?
Absolutely.
Some of the most compelling infrastructure photographs are taken by people who work around projects every day. Whether you’re an engineer, project manager, contractor, student or photography enthusiast, we encourage you to enter.
The judges will be looking for strong images that capture the scale, form and visual presence of infrastructure, not simply professional credentials.
